SuperDrain siphonic roof drainage
Project: IKEA logistic centre
Location: Dortmund, Germany
Year: 2008
The central IKEA warehouse in Dortmund supplies all European furniture stores. That requires perfect logistics and smooth operational processes – and that includes the roof drainage system. IKEA chose SuperDrain for its siphonic drainage. Systematic complete filling means that the pipes are already at capacity after light showers, forming a water column that falls down. The water is then removed from the surrounding roof surfaces by suction, using negative pressure. This system works with significantly fewer and smaller pipes which can be installed under the roof without gradient. Reducing the number of downpipes increases the utility of the building, and the high flow velocity ensures self-cleansing of the pipes.
